FORMER EMPLOYEE FILES SUIT AGAINST PITTSBURGH CAREER INSTITUTE FOR WRONGFUL TERMINATION
PITTSBURGH, PA, March 16, 2016 – Robin Farmer filed a wrongful termination suit against Pittsburgh Career Institute alleging wrongful termination in violation of Pennsylvania’s Whistleblower Law.
Ms. Farmer taught Medical Billing and Coding at PCI. With a Master’s degree and twenty years experience in billing and coding, she was a great asset to PCI and was the Program Director for Medical Assisting and Medical Billing/Coding. She also coordinated its externship program.
Ms. Farmer became aware of discrepancies between supplies that had actually been ordered and what PCI had been reporting and billing the government for. She indicated her concerns, as well as those regarding the student to teacher ratio of her program to an accreditor. When PCI found out that she had reported the waste and wrongdoing, it terminated her, claiming she was not qualified to teach the Medical Billing and Coding Program.
Ms. Farmer is represented by Kraemer, Manes & Associates LLC, a Pittsburgh-based law firm focused on representing employees and protecting employee rights. The attorney on this case is Elizabeth Pollock-Avery, Esq.
The case was originally filed in the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas. A digital copy of the filed complaint is available under Docket Number GD-16-004108.
