PITTSBURGH – A part-time professor at Robert Morris University filed a lawsuit alleging that the school breached his employment contract and violated provisions of the Wage Payment and Collection Law.
According to a civil complaint filed in the Western District Court of Pennsylvania, Plaintiff Thomas Soos was employed as a part-time professor of Economics at Robert Morris University. Mr. Soos alleged that, under his employment agreement with the university, he was entitled to receive three course assignments during each academic semester. However, Mr. Soos was only issued two assignments by Robert Morris University during the Spring 2016 semester, according to the complaint.
Then, in the Spring 2017 semester, according to the court filing, he was only provided with one course assignment. Mr. Soos alleged that the university did not have a reasonable excuse for failing to provide him with the course assignments and compensation that were outlined in his previously agreed upon employment contract.
Lead Attorney David Manes asserted a violation of the Wage Payment and Collection Law, as well as a statutory breach of contract claim. According to the complaint, Mr. Soos suffered monetary damages in excess of $6,000 as a result of the violation of the Wage Payment and Collection Law and the breach of contract perpetrated by Robert Morris University.
The claim was originally filed by Attorney Manes in small claims Magisterial Court. According to Mr. Soos’ filing, the case was removed to federal court by Robert Morris University, acting as the defendant. Attorney Manes asserted in the filing that the federal court lacks proper jurisdiction, and provided that the claim should be heard in the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas.
